Passion for lotus root
Good things come from good people
At Kawakami Renkon, we want everyone in the world to enjoy the delicious lotus root we grow with love.
Most of the staff have no experience in farming, but based on the desire to "convey emotions through lotus roots," the Production and Conservation Division discusses how to make the lotus roots bigger and tastier, and by raising them like children, they deepen their understanding of lotus roots.
The center management department aims for no claims, no returns, and creates safe and secure products with thorough inspection and a focus on appearance.
The accounting department supports the company with this in mind.
In order to connect the vision of the production, center, and accounting departments with the people who eat Kawakami's lotus root, the sales department works together with the production and center departments to share information about Kawakami's daily life and recipes to make it even more delicious.
We are encouraged by the occasional comments from Kawakami fans, such as "I eat it all the time" and "Kawakami lotus root is delicious," which encourages us to work even harder as all our staff come together as one family.

Based on Kawakami Renkon Co., Ltd.'s management philosophy of "autonomy and co-creation," the mottos of "agriculture that utilizes abilities" and "thinking agriculture" were born from the perspective of GLOBAL GAP .
At Kawakami, we have simplified and manualized our work based on GLOBAL GAP.
We aim to create agriculture that anyone can understand and do . By creating manuals for work and ensuring that everyone in the organization understands what to do, we can build a system that allows each person to make the most of their abilities.
With this system, Kawakami has created a workplace where employees can fully utilize their abilities .
Our employees always think and act for themselves, the organization, and their colleagues.
At Kawakami, we manualize and simplify our work based on GLOBAL GAP, allowing each employee to think about their work.
By thinking for yourself, you will gain autonomy, and by discussing your ideas with your peers, you will co-create. By doing so, each person will be able to "make the most of their abilities in agriculture."

Greenhouse lotus root from June
A unique texture and aroma that can only be enjoyed in summer.
It is grown in a greenhouse forcing method, which is rare even in Japan. This special cultivation method results in lotus root that is more juicy than other lotus roots, with a texture similar to cucumber and a flavor similar to corn.
In Kumamoto City, which has sandy loam soil, lotus root is mainly grown in greenhouses and harvested from late May until the Obon festival in August as "summer lotus root." In Tamana City, which has heavy clay soil, lotus root is mainly grown outdoors and harvested from August until April as "autumn/winter lotus root."

In Kumamoto, it is grown on an area larger than 10 Tokyo Domes.

natural groundwater cultivation
We use clean well water that is drinkable to grow our crops.
This prevents the invasion of pests and diseases from outside, allowing us to cultivate safe and secure lotus roots.
<For groundwater conservation>
The lotus root fields are separated by water barriers, and the amount of water that evaporates is added. Approximately 20 minutes of water is added per 10 ares.

Commitment to soil
Taking advantage of the characteristics of two types of soil in Kumamoto Prefecture, we have become able to cultivate lotus roots with different flavors and textures over the long term. Although the fertilizer method differs depending on the type of soil, the basic soil preparation is the same, and we grow lotus roots using natural environmental farming methods, feeding them with rice bran and chicken manure, and using Thomas fungus and PSB (photosynthetic bacteria). This farming method aims to maintain an ideal environment for lotus roots, which grow their entire lives in the soil. We maintain a good balance of the density of bacteria in the water in the lotus fields, helping the lotus roots to grow within a biological cycle.
